How to Create and Assign Customer Group in Magento 2?

In Magento 2, customer groups are an essential feature that allows you to segment your customers based on different criteria. You can offer personalized pricing, discounts, and promotions to specific customer groups. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of creating and assigning customer groups in Magento 2.

Step 1: Access the Admin Panel

Log in to your Magento 2 admin panel using your administrator credentials.

Step 2: Create a New Customer Group

  1. From the Magento admin sidebar, navigate to "Customers" and then click on "Customer Groups."
  2. On the Customer Groups page, click on the "Add New Customer Group" button located in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter a unique name for the new customer group (e.g., Wholesale Customers, VIP Customers, etc.).
  4. Optionally, you can set a tax class for the customer group. Tax classes determine the tax rates applied to products for specific customer groups.
  5. Click on the "Save Customer Group" button to create the new group.

Step 3: Assign Customers to the Customer Group

  1. After creating the customer group, go to the "Customers" section and click on "All Customers."
  2. Select the customer(s) you want to assign to the newly created customer group. You can select multiple customers by checking the checkboxes next to their names.
  3. From the "Actions" dropdown at the top of the customer list, choose "Assign a Customer Group."
  4. A pop-up will appear, displaying the available customer groups. Select the group you created earlier and click on the "Submit" button.

Step 4: Apply Group-specific Pricing or Discounts (Optional)

You can now configure group-specific pricing or discounts for the customers in the newly created group.

  1. Edit a product you want to apply group-specific pricing or discounts to.
  2. In the product edit page, navigate to the "Advanced Pricing" section.
  3. Click on "Add Group Price" to set a specific price for customers in the assigned customer group.
  4. Choose the customer group from the dropdown, enter the special price, and click on the "Save" button.

Step 5: Save Configurations

After assigning customers to the customer group and applying any necessary group-specific pricing, remember to save the configurations.
